A song about life growing up on the farm with my grandpa and grandma.

The first word that ever came out of my mouth was “tractor”
My grandad had a farm with several old orange Allis Chalmers
Orange is still my favorite color of all
That’s my first memory of life back on the farm

I was raised in a small town in Iowa with farms all around me
My summers were spent at the farm with grandpa and grannie
I would ride my three-wheeler in the pasture all day long
Life was much easier then, back on the farm

As I grew up my grandpa taught me to labor
I’d pick up them hay bales with the tractor then pull ‘em on the trailer
Working in the fields until dark, then get up at dawn
Just one of life’s lessons I learned back on the farm

When a day’s work was done the best thing was grandma’s home cookin’
It was always much better tasting than it was lookin’
Her ice cream dessert was to die for, and her pies were a charm
My taste buds were always happiest back on the farm

We would wash up the old Model-A for Old Settlers parade
My cousins would come from Virginia, and we’d play all day
Hours of wiffle ball games out in the front yard
Hide and go seek on several acres back on the farm

I moved away after college and grandma passed on
Grandpa still lived but the love of his life was now gone
Those orange tractors now collect dust out in the barn
Things will never be the same back on the farm
